Understanding the Who Dat Culture
This sums it up:
“When I drive into Dallas, I see a place sprawling and bland, loops and rings of interstate and, somewhere over the horizon, a stadium representing a just-gone era of bloat and decay … scoreboard so big it interferes with the game … $60 pizzas. It looks new but is dead inside. In contrast, there is the drive out of New Orleans, through a city still battered, past the exits for the Vieux Carre and Uptown, past the Huey Long, which runs narrow and high out to the leaning oyster and chicken shack. All told, this is a city with the opposite calculus of Dallas: It is decayed on the outside, but inside there is life. Here is a citizenry that believes in the power of the underdog. New Orleanians fell first and see something the rest of America is blind to right now: a way back into the light.”
Media Temple, thou hath screwed me
I’m friggin’ furious. Just found out that all of my sites hosted on Media Temple were hacked because MT had all of their users passwords stored in a database in FUCKING PLAIN TEXT!
I’m now spending my morning looking through files to cleanup this crap, and yet again I look like an idiot to my clients because of someone else’s error. Actually, on second thought, it’s my error for continuing to use MT even though they have screwed me on multiple occasions.
Hey Media Temple…Yes, your account center is pretty, but I pay you to maintain the server in ways I don’t want to or can’t…security and availability being paramount.
I hate the idea of moving everything to a new server, but I guess it’s time.
A gift from the Nola Sewerage & Water Board on 12/1/09. Let’s see how long it takes them to actually fix the whole they made with something more than mud and shells. 3rd world and proud of it. Oy Vey!
This is how you advertise for tourism. Glad to see a city (or at least visitors bureau) with a sense of humor.
